If you are considering a retaining wall for your property in Palmetto, Parrish, Bradenton, or the nearby areas of Florida, it may be for one of a few reasons. People often opt to install retaining walls for decorative purposes, to add extra seating around their outdoor spaces, or to prevent erosion on their property.
Learn more about the different types of retaining walls, the process behind installing them, and how long you can expect them to last.
Design Retaining Walls: Create Property Borders or Raised Planter Beds
A design, or decorative retaining wall, can be used for a few reasons, but the most popular reasons we often see are to create borders around someone’s property or to build raised planter beds. Raised planter beds can add a new dimension to the overall design of your landscape, too. For a really interesting look, consider a terraced landscape bed with multiple retaining walls.
Typically, these walls are not too high. We can build them with interlocking wall blocks, pavers, or other options that present a myriad of color choices. Any of those options last for at least 50 years or more, making them a sound investment.
Seating Walls: Add Extra Seats Around Your Patio, Fire Pit, or Outdoor Living Space
Seating walls are a great way to add extra seating throughout your outdoor living space. We like to add them around patios or fire pits so that guests can gather in these areas and enjoy each other’s company. Seating walls are usually made from concrete wall blocks or stacked stone and will last for decades so long as they are properly maintained and cleaned.
We can choose a color of material for your seating wall that matches your existing outdoor living area–whether that be gray, brown, or a mixture of colors.
Structural Retaining Walls: Stop Erosion Before It Starts on Your Property
A structural or functional retaining wall is usually constructed in order to stop soil from eroding away on your property. In some cases, it can also be used to level out areas of your yard. Some Florida beach homes use them to elevate the house away from the beach and minimize the risk of high tide washing away the yard or plants.
Some of these retaining walls may require an engineer to be on site, as they will need to help with the specifics if the wall is very high. Interlocking wall blocks, concrete blocks, and even boulders can be used to make these types of retaining walls. As long as you keep up with the maintenance of these functional walls, you can expect them to last for decades before needing to be replaced.
