Stick to a mowing schedule.
Your mowing routine should begin as soon as the turf turns green in the spring, which is usually in March. Continue mowing once per week through the summer. Once summer is over, St. Augustine grass will become dormant and will only need to be mowed once every 2 to 3 weeks. Pick up your mowing routine to once a week the following spring.
Mowing height is important!
As a rule of thumb, all grass types should have no more than one-third of the blade cut in one mowing session. St. Augustine lawns should be kept at a height of 3 to 4 inches for maximum growth and consistency. If the grass grows longer, it will not have a clean cut when mowed.
